-A couple of tarantulas are now living at the Royal Alberta Museum, after they were found in packages that had been shipped to Edmonton from Hong Kong.
A male spider was found in a plastic container at the Border Services Agency’s Commercial facility at the Edmonton International Airport in May, while a female was found in June in a kid’s toy plane.
Because they aren’t considered endangered species, permits weren’t necessary for import, but the way they were shipped was considered inhumane. (photo courtesy of CBSA)

Morinville RCMP are hoping the public can help them track down some suspects who tried to break into a home in Morinville last Thursday.
Mounties say there were two suspects, two men, and it’s believed one of them had a handgun, while the other had a sledgehammer.
They didn’t get into the home and took off in a white pickup truck with a silver tool chest in the back.
RCMP are asking that anyone who can identify these suspects call the Morinville RCMP Detachment at 780-939-4520. If you wish to remain anonymous you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), by Internet at www.tipsubmit.com or by SMS (check your local Crime Stoppers www.crimestoppers.ab.ca for instructions).

-A man was arrested following a chase that went through Irma and near Wainwright before it finally came to an end in Saskatchewan yesterday.
Vermillion RCMP say they had tried to stop a pickup that was speeding through Irma, and during the chase, speeds hit about 180km an hour, as the truck rammed several vehicles along Highway 18 outside of Wainwright.
The suspect vehicle managed to cross the border into Saskatchewan, ran over an RCMP spike belt west of Unity and hit the ditch.
That’s where the driver was arrested.
Amazingly, no one was injured through the entire incident.

-Yet another collision involving a train in the province.
This one happened last night, as Evansburg RCMP say an SUV pulled out and passed a number of vehicles on Highway 22, and slammed into the moving train before bursting into flames.
People who’d been waiting in that lineup rushed to help and pulled the man from the SUV.
He was taken to the hospital by STARS air ambulance.
RCMP are investigating and witnesses say the crossing arms and flashing lights were working when the SUV hit the train.

Tofield RCMP say it was found just after midnight Saturday, about 200 metres offshore.
The survivor was taken to the hospital by STARS air ambulance.
No other details have been released.
They’re talking about highs of 38 in Kamloops, while Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Howe Sound are looking at 33 or more.
Everyone is being asked to conserve water, but experts do say it shouldn’t be as bad as the heat dome that hit in 2021.
At this point, they’ve got more food going out than donations coming in, and they’ve actually started new programs to help people get more income, so they don’t have to rely on the food bank.
Their Beyond Food Program helps with resumes and job searches.
There have been cases of patients who use the injectors as a weight-loss aid, inhaling food and liquid into their lungs while sedated, because their stomachs were still full, even though they had been fasting for hours as instructed.
