-A new report from the Alberta School Bus Contractors Association says the current shortage of school bus drivers has hit a “crisis” level.
President Mark Critch says new drivers have to take a mandatory four week course, which runs them 5-thousand dollars.
But he says they aren’t paid while taking it, and then they have to wait to take a road test.
He says it works out to about six weeks of unpaid training, and then most are only hired to work part-time.
He says it’s time the Ministries of Education and Transport work together to solve the problem, by providing funding for those who want to be a school bus driver.
